There’s a Path for You

There’s a Path for You

By Jennifer Lindberg

I focus on a single strain of light breaking the dawn, lighting the east until the sun blazes high and hot.

A light of mercy in a world made dull by a quarantined world as a virus stalks us, economies relinquish gains, and toilet paper hoarding replaces baseball as the national past-time. Armed police-officers stand guard at bare toilet paper shelves. A pandemic shift of mind to the bottom.

I prefer looking up.

“It feels like I’m living the same day over and over,” a friend told me but we agree make-up and changing out of our pajama’s is best to keep mama right. That old saying goes deep: “If mama’s not right, nobody’s right.”

We need to be the light either from the kitchen stove or the computer keyboard. My other friend institutes 15-minute conversations between us every day before we pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Her introvert heart knows the glitter needs of my extrovert being– warding off dark thoughts of climbing the wall. I like stillness but complete silence of tongue? I did not enter a cloister for a reason. These friends are twinkling lights of joy to me right now, miles away but embedded in my heart as my rosary beads thread through my fingers.

A change is going to come. I don’t know what, where, how, when, or why. I’ve never lived through viral times except on social media. I only know trust is needed as I pray, “Have Mercy on Us and the Whole World.” I know the sun will rise, the moon will set and draw the tides. My rosary beads will keep turning with a new story each day to give to God. At night, the Creator of Stars and Universe, of Man and Flesh, and Mystery holds me in a tiny palm. A baby’s palm reaching out on long-ago night in a town of Bethlehem now quarantined itself. Quarantines and viruses are no match for that baby-God.

If I fall to pieces over all this –God will put me back together. If there’s a new normal, God still rules the world whether you close the churches, stop the gatherings, and keep the Body and Blood of Jesus locked away with a Beating Heart for a troubled world. The Holy Spirit still breathes fire and comfort. A change is coming. I go forth with hope and Jesus, I Trust in You! Because it’s a new day, a new dawn of mercies netted out by the One with all the final say.
